A Valentines Post

This year, Valentines Day falls on a Monday. And due to an accumulation of traffic tickets, I will be spending Monday evening at a mandated driving class…. can’t you just feel the romance in the air? I’ll actually be performing at a small theatre for a “Singles-Mingle” event on Sunday… I’ll be kicking-off the event with a half-hour on relationships. I’m guessing this may be awkward, but my theory is the awkwardness of hearing stories & jokes about my failed relationships will bring the singles together with them saying “well, at least we’re not him”. This should be much better than my day before Valentine’s last year, where I hit the bar district of Buffalo in an effort to find a last-minute Valentine (take a look):

After searching for that video on YouTube, I came across this related-video that I’d never seen before. It’s some stand-up I did around Valentines last year… apparently someone was recording me and posted it to YouTube. It actually starts off with inviting a girl on stage and telling her why it would never work out with us... essentially I make the case that if she had ever been through a car wash, it would practically be the same experience as having sex with me. If you watch through the end of the clip you’ll see me going through a list of topical jokes. If I remember correctly, the reasoning behind this was my effort to create a summation of all other topics covered by a handful of comics that opened up the show. Enjoy:

Top news includes war in Afganistan, raising oil prices, and WHAT?!?

I turned on the local news last night and what was the TOP STORY? Buffalo Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick had shaved his beard.

I can't Billieve (get it?) that this was the top story in sports, let alone the top story of the actual 6 o'clock newscast. As such, I thought this would be a good time to whore-out a music video for a song that Dan Fisher & I wrote/shot. Enjoy.

Holiday Showcase Reviews, A look back on the Buffalo Bills

First off, a big THANK YOU to all of the comics and audience members who came out to "Chet Wild's Thanksgiving Comedy Showcase" and "Chet Wild's Festivus-for-the-Rest-of-Us Comedy Showcase". Attendance was at 125+ and 140+ respectively. Pictures below:

Since this weekend marks both the end of another Buffalo Bills season without a playoff appearance as well as the end of 2010, I thought I'd post all of the Buffalo Bills comedy videos I made earlier this year. There are 2 series of 3 Buffalo Bills Public Service Announcements based on NBC's "The More You Know" campaign, as well as a "Wild on the Streets" at the home opener in September... I had a lot of fun making these, so click on them - I need the extra 18 views on YouTube so I'll only be 347 million hits behind Just Beiber.

Lastly, I updated my calendar.... lots of new dates with pretty much every weekend booked in January. I'll be opening for Jamie Lissow on New Years Eve as well as Saturday in Rochester at The Comedy Club, hope to see ya there!

The Holidays! Should I cut my hair short? Also, when did I become such a girl?

I put together a holiday showcase at 'The Comedy Club' in Rochester for Thanksgiving and it was a great time with 125+ in attendance.... SO I'm doing another one for comics / friends who are home for the holidays and it's NEXT THURSDAY at 8:00 and it's FREE! Check out the poster... it has a great line-up, including the return of my good friend and hilarious comic Nigel Larson who's home visiting from Seattle.

I'm thinking about getting my hair cut again. Part of me wants to get it cut short, as that seems more "socially acceptable" and it would take away from the creep-factor when approaching women.... On the other hand, I enjoy looking like a caveman. The last time I got my hair cut was in September & I filmed the experience.... here's the end result.

Alright, that's enough blogging for now. I hope the 3 people who visit this site enjoyed it. Off to do 4 comedy club shows for the weekend. Peace.

Colleges, Show Reviews, and Women

I ended by last blog/update with "much more soon!".... Apparently "soon" means a month and a half later.

To the left you will find one of the scariest looking pictures every taken of me, doing stand-up or otherwise. Believe it or not, that picture is actually from an awesome show Jamie Lissow & I did at The Bartlett Country Club in Olean. Mat Kratts did a great job of setting it up, it was a packed house - standing room only.

Odeum Entertainment did a review of the show and said the following about me: "His self-depreciating humor and willingness to push the envelopes of religion, race and gender make him a comedian to see over and over again." You can read the whole show review by clicking here.

I'll be performing with Jamie another half-dozen or so times over the next month in Rochester, Fredonia, and Elmira.... including New Years Eve at The Comedy Club in Rochester... you can check out all of my upcoming shows through January on my calendar page.

As I mentioned in a previous blog, I'm going to start taking videos I previously made while working for Hearst Media and adding them to my personal youtube page. Here's the first one I've added (if you like watching me awkwardly try to interact with women, you'll enjoy this):

I'll try to post videos on here weekly for the next few months, whether they be old videos I've added to my YouTube or some new stuff I've shot and just need to edit.

As most of you reading probably know, I've spent the past several months as a comedic video journalist for the alternative news and entertainment website SkunkPost.com. Last Friday, nearly everyone who works there, self included, was called in and let go - as the company who owns the website has decided to scratch the project and go in a different direction with a new site.

Most would assume I would be both pissed and dissapointed about all of this, and most would be right. However, I know the failure of that website doesn't the shoulder of myself or the people who worked on producing content for the site daily.... I mean, the website was producing content geared towards an adult demographic, and the last major marketing campaign for the website over the summer was spending $15,000 on sponsoring KISS 98.5's "Kiss the Summer Hello" concert... a concert who's primary demographic was teen & pre-teen girls.... me thinks something doesn't add up, haha!!!

Bottom line, I created some comedy videos I was VERY proud of. Over the coming weeks and months, I'll be adding a dozen or so of my favorite videos I created to this site..... so be on the lookout for that!

As cliche as it may sound, when one door closes another window opens. I'm not going to give away too much info just yet, but in the last 5 days I've received several phone calls and have had a few business meetings regarding others who are interested in my ideas and talents.... and there are some pretty kickass things ahead :)

I'll elaborate more in the near future, but before that, here's the last video I put together for SkunkPost..... and it's not even a comedy video!!!! I decided to get out of my comfort zone of shooting comedy videos and put together a piece on my favorite local band in Buffalo. The whole thing was produced, directed, filmed, and editing by me. Check out the video below and add the band, Colors in the Air, on facebook - they're awesome.

Also, I've been writing monologue-style jokes on twitter lately. Why? Because I get easily bored and I don't have to move to solve my boredom this way. A very LONG overdue update... MY SUMMER!

So I kind of fell behind on updating this blog over the summer, but no worries, I'm back now.

Luck for you, I've been filming much of my life happenings for SkunkPost.com, so in a matter of a few clicks, you can check out everything you missed.

At the end of June, I messed with drunk girls in Chippewa Street. Then I talked some trash at the Gus Macker Basketball tournament. At the start of July, I spent a week in Arizona telling jokes. Upon returning to Buffalo I addressed the Air Quality Alerts issued in the city. We roasted my good friend Nigel Larson before he moved to Seattle. And since I missed Nigel, I filled the gap of his absence by messing with future MILFs. Speaking of attractive women, I put together a list of the hottest female news reporters in Buffalo. I also grew a beard and visited the Springville Auction and Flea Market. I closed out the summer by attending the National Buffalo Wing Festival and kicked off the fall weather by tailgating at the Bills game.

So, that's been my summer in a nutshell. A few cute stories to share as well....

2 weekends ago, I ran into the actor who played "Uncle Leo" on TV's "Seinfeld." I approached him, said hello, and asked him for an interview. He shook his head 'no' and walked away. So I yelled, "What, no hello!?!?" True story and a great moment in my life.

In August, I did 4 nights of shows at a club in Wisconsin. As such, I spent a good amount of time at a few local bars. The stereotypical thing comics seem to deal with whenever someone finds out they're a comic is the whole "tell me a joke!" scenario. One night, a drunk girl overheard I was a comedian. She approached me and said "Hey, you're a comedian, tell me a joke." So I replied, "Hey, you're hott, show me your tits!".... her boyfriend angrily stepped in and said "What the f*ck did you just say?!" to which I replied, "Relax, I'm a comedian, I'm just joking..... she's not that hott." Luckily, I had already made friends around me and had strength in numbers.... and once again I avoid another ass-kicking, woo-hoo!
