New Project: Rust Belt Comedy 12/21/2008
When I first started doing stand-up, I realized that there's a good number of relatively talented, yet unknown, comics in Western NY. 2 months back I started talking with some comics after open mics about the idea of forming a stand-up troupe to gig around colleges and bars as well as to develop a camaraderie with local comedians that are out to support the work of each other. After getting some buy-in, I put together Rust Belt Comedy - a group of 5 Buffalo-based comedians. We're going to pilot the idea this spring with a handful of college/bar/club gigs and if it goes well, I'll look to expand booking in the Fall. If it tanks, well - it's an effort that I truly feel needs to be made anyway. It's time to make (more of) a scene in WNY. Becker has a second room up n' running at Casey's in Buffalo, Rochester has a new comedy club, now I'm looking to do my part.
