Rich Vos sit-down; Florentine/Weekend Recap 09/28/2009
I've been trying to release a new episode of "Behind The Funny" every Monday... so far, so good. In this weeks episode, I sit down with Rich Vos (Last Comic Standing, Comedy Central Presents, Opie & Anthony) and talk about speech impediments, a funny Seinfeld story, and Vos's dream comedy show. Enjoy... and watch through the ending, as there are previews of the next 2 episodes including my battle with sleep apnea and an interview with Jim Florentine. This weekend was an AWESOME weekend of comedy. I had a great time opening on 5 shows for Jim Florentine and found myself writing new material on stage. Additionally, "Chet Wild's Comedy Showcase" had another great turn-out and congrats to Nigel Larson on winning the audiences approval for best act of the night! I also started working on a new bit where I bring an audience member on stage and interview them, and I was pretty happy with how it went. You can click on the pictures below to enlarge them and get a visual for what I'm writing about. On Sunday, Rick Matthews and I went to "Ointoberfest" with Benny on camera, and we documented our experience (similar to our Buffalo Wing Festival video on Behind The Funny). Oinktoberfest is a big barbeque festival where there are all sorts of food competitions and as well as opportunities to taste BBQ from a variety of places. Oinktoberfest itself was a letdown, but we did meet some awesome people and the food we sampled was fantastic! That video will be out in a few weeks. Following a dismal Bills game, I headlined my first true club show on Vinnie Paulino's 5 Shots Comedy Show. Despite starting off with a heckler that ended up getting bounced and having a front-row audience member bump my stool on stage which resulted in my glass falling and shattering everywhere, it was still a fun 30 minutes on stage. Thanks to Vinnie and Tizo for producing that show, excellent job! The icing on the cake, however, would have to be reading Kyle Cease's blog this weekend. Kyle was holding a contest on his website to win a VIP spot at his comedy bootcamp next month, and even though I didn't win - he highlighted my entry on his most recent blog. "I fucking love what Chet Wild just wrote, I thought that if you really read what he wrote, you will see that he is someone who is going after his destiny, and sees the true value of what his life will be like and how to maximize opportunities [...] I recommend everyone read that so you can see how much you really can do with something [...] You just need to trust yourself and truly take action. Go full force. It is the only way to live. We have this one life and we truly half ass everything. Any of you are capable of writing what he wrote and really seeing a future. Nice job Chet." - Kyle Cease In case I haven't said it recently, thank you to everyone who's been supportive of me and to all of the comics I've recently had the opportunity to work with. Comedy is ready to blow up in Western NY and I'm glad to be a part of it. See you at a show soon! CW Another Monday, which means another new episode of Behind The Funny. At the end of August I had the pleasure of working with Mike Dambra - who I'd never seen live before. I can honestly say he's now one of my top 5 favorite comics - simply awesome! Mike and I sat down on camera to talk about his magic sperm, "The Pickle", and handling hecklers. Included are clips of Mike doing "The Pickle" and Mike and I both handling some noisy bitches... I kind of lost my nerve on stage, but Mike came on stage and destroyed them... definitely a learning experience for me as a young comic. This is probably my best Behind The Funny interview thus far. Next week I'll be releasing a sit-down interview with Rich Vos. Enjoy... I also have 7 shows at The Comedy Club in Rochester this weekend.... freakin' SEVEN! It's The Comedy Club's 1-Year Anniversary this weekend so be sure to catch at least one of them: THURSDAY: 07:30pm - Opening for Jim Florentine 09:00pm - Chet Wild's Comedy Showcase (free - see poster below) *Comics: There are 3 open lottery spots, sign-up at 9pm. I'll let you know my opinion in a few days after people have a chance to vote. ![]() Labor Day 2009... my favorite weekend of the year. Because it signifies the end of a hot summer and me sweating? No. Because I get Monday off from work. No (in fact, I worked Monday). It's my favorite weekend of the year for one reason and one reason only: The National Buffalo Wing Festival. This year I was joined by my good friend and fellow comedian RIck Matthews, and we brought a camera along to share the experience all of you. It's actually a 2-part episode... part 1 is more of a build up to the actual wing eating and chronicles the anger of Rick Matthews... part 2 is where we get to the eating. You can view the videos by visiting my YouTube channel, youtube.com/TheChetWildShow, or by viewing below. ![]() After trying wings from dozens of locations, Rick and I actually chose our favorites. Despite choosing different wings, we actually chose wings from the same location - and this was no coincidence. Pesci's Pizza and Wings was hands-down the winner across the board. Even though it's a restaurant from the Buffalo area, it was the first time Rick and I had both heard of it. Rick chose the Maple-Cinnamon chicken wing, which is basically what you would want in a chicken wing if you would like to eat them for breakfast. I chose the Wild Turkey Bour-B-Q, a BBQ wing with a sauce that has a base of Wild Turkey Bourbon. A few honorable mentions: Pesci's (again) for their AWESOME "hawg wings"... basically, they're pork short-ribs thrown on the grill and covered in wing sauce. If Jesus likes BBQ, this is what he eats. Also, Danny's Restaurant for a kick-ass chicken wing mac-n-cheese. And lastly, my favorite from last year, Arooga's out of Harrisburgh, PA. The Sudden Death made our camera man tear, and the Kangarooga and Almost Everything wings were amazing! ![]() Also, don't forget about Rust Belt Comedy Presents: Open Mic Comedy Night at Merge this Wednesday.... 9:30pm sign-ups, 10pm show. Additionally, Thursday is an actual Rust Belt Comedy show at The Blue Wall in South Buffalo. 9:00pm show, $5/door, and special guests Nigel Larson, Eric Lingenfelter, and Dan Rice will be doing sets as well. It's going to be a great night! Lastly, I recently had sit-down interviews with comedians Mike Dambra and Rich Vos, so be on the lookout for some very intriguing future episodes of Behind The Funny. Thanks for all the support! CW Below is a revised edition of Episode #103 "Behind The Funny"... I made the mistake of posting video from my own showcase without getting explicit written permission from all comics which became an issue for one.... wah-wah. Oh well, check out the NEW and IMPROVED edition of Episode #103 which also includes a sneak peak at Episodes #104, 105, & 106 which I'm pretty pumped about. Also, I'm doing 3 shows with Rich Vos this weekend and have a few comp tickets, let me know if you want them. CW |
